There is a new program for youth at the Lower Mainland Purpose Society. The
Newcomer Youth Connection Program aims to assist new immigrant youth living in
New Westminster and Burnaby in adjusting to their new surroundings. The program
is specifically intended for youths, aged 15 to 20, who are facing issues such
as language barriers, isolation, stigmas, cultural adjustments and homesickness.
The Newcomer Youth Connection Program offers the following services:
1. Life Skills
• Independent living
• Employment readiness
• Familiarization with the Canadian education system
• Informing youth of their rights and responsibilities
2. Academics (ESL)
• Learning English as a second language
• Learning basic reading and numeracy
• Academic upgrading
3. Other Services
• Educational outings
• Workplace orientation
Through these services, the Newcomer Youth Connection Program hopes to empower
immigrant youth, increase their wellness and safety, reduce any feelings of
isolation they may have, increase their personal competency and increase their
overall quality of life. This program is free of charge, and is offered through
the Lower Mainland Purpose Society and the Ministry of Children and Family
Development.

delivers service. It will no longer offer one to one support or outreach. We
will deliver service in a group format. The group will run 3 times per year,
each one lasting for 12 weeks.
The first group begins January 13th until March 31st. The group will run on
Tuesdays from 11-1:30
The name of the group is Pitter Patter Circle Time, it will serve Pregnant
women, children under 30 months and their caregivers. This is a free service for
residents living in New Westminster, Burnaby and Tri Cities.
Group participants will learn about parenting strategies, fetal/infant
development, diet and nutrition, community resources.
Service delivery will work towards decreasing isolation, increasing stability
and healthy development from pregnancy into early childhood.
Healthy snacks and bus tickets will be provided.
Pitter Patter Circle Time is a safe place to make new friends, share ideas,
games and stories and most importantly have lots of FUN!
