The Newcomer Youth Connection Program offers the following services:

1. Life Skills

• Employment readiness
• Familiarization with the Canadian education system
• Informing youth of their rights and responsibilities

2. Academics (ESL)

• Learning English as a second language
• Learning basic reading and numeracy
• Academic upgrading

3. Other Services

Through these services, the Newcomer Youth Connection Program hopes to empower immigrant youth, increase their wellness and safety, reduce any feelings of isolation they may have, increase their personal competency and increase their overall quality of life. New Westminster Community Gateway

The New Westminster Community Gateway provides services of reception and orientation for immigrant newcomers of New Westminster. This program is funded by the Immigration and WelcomeBC Branch of the Ministry of Advanced Education and Labour Market Development. The NWCG aims to:

  • Provide newcomers with a successful start in New Westminster

  • Match newcomers with Welcome Ambassadors, who will provide newcomers with information about life in New Westminster, as well as information regarding available services

  • Help newcomers build an understanding of Canadian life and culture, develop new connections and learn how to access services in the community

The Welcome Ambassadors are volunteers who are:

  • Residents of New Westminster who are established immigrants.

  • Able to draw from their own experiences immigrating to New Westminster

  • Familiar of local services in New Westminster, and will be able to help newcomers adjust to their new surroundings.

The New Westminster Community Gateway offers comprehensive and relevant training for all Welcome Ambassadors. In volunteering for the NWCG, Welcome Ambassadors have an opportunity to participate in a cross-cultural program while developing broadly applicable skills.
