Summary of Job Description

The Lower Mainland Purpose Society for Youth and Families is a non-profit society providing a variety of social, health and educational programs together with a continuum of services to Lower Mainland communities.

 

Job Summary

Applicants must be energetic, positive high school or full-time college/university students returning to school in September. They are responsible for implementing summer program activities with the summer program team. Under the direction of the Summer Program Supervisor, they will work with senior Activity Workers to supervise 12 -15 children and provide a safe and welcoming environment for participants. Summer Activity Workers will have the opportunity to work with all ages and different senior Activity Workers throughout the summer.

 

 

Qualifications:           Enrolled in school for the past semester and planning to attend in the fall

                                    Knowledge and awareness of issues surrounding diversity and

multiculturalism

Required criminal record search

High Five Certificate

Current First Aid Certificate an asset

Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills

Past experience in a children’s recreational program

Food Safe Level 1 an asset

 

Responsibilities:         Assist the Summer Program Coordinator in planning and implementing an

attractive, fun, two-month program for children 6 – 12 years old

Assist with the planning of theme weeks/days and activities

Maintain effective communication with parents/caregivers on a regular basis

Interact with children, provide leadership and guidance in a healthy and safe

environment

Contribute to creating and maintaining a fun environment

Work in a team; provide and ask for support and feedback from the team

Assist in the end of summer program clean up

                                    Yukon Crescent Children’s Centre, 2123 Yukon Crescent, Burnaby

 

Salary:                        $12.65 per hour plus 4% vacation pay

 

Hours of Work:         Monday to Friday, 30 hours per week (rotating shifts)
