Volunteering

Purpose Society is a multi-service agency that provides counselling, education, health, addictions and residential services to children, youth and families. Many of the programs are located at our headquarters building in New Westminster. The addictions programs operate in facilities in Burnaby, one youth program is based in the Edmonds area of Burnaby and the transitional living facility for youth is at a separate location in New Westminster.

Purpose Society’s headquarters is located close to the New Westminster SkyTrain station and all other locations are accessible by public transit.

The volunteer positions at Purpose are varied and match with a wide range of interests and skills. All Purpose volunteer positions give individuals the opportunity to meet new people, have fun, make a contribution and learn. Staff train and support volunteers. Volunteers are included in professional development seminars and workshops sponsored by the agency.

The Volunteer Coordinator meets with people who ask about volunteering at Purpose Society to find out the activities they want to participate in and assists in matching the applicant’s interests and skills with available volunteer positions. New volunteers are asked to fill out an application, give references and consent to a criminal record check. A few volunteer positions also require a driving record check. All new volunteers are asked to commit to four hours/week for a six-month period.
