Volunteering With Purpose
Welcome
Thank you for your interest in volunteering with the Lower
Mainland Purpose Society for Youth and Families or the “Purpose Society”, as it
is popularly known. Volunteers make an invaluable contribution to the quality of
service that Purpose provides for consumers.
Purpose Society is a community-based multi-service
organization that delivers a continuum of programs to children, youth and
families in the areas of: health, education, childcare, counselling and skill
development.
The volunteer positions at Purpose are varied and match with
a wide range of interests and skills. All Purpose volunteer positions give
individuals the opportunity to meet new people, have fun, make a contribution
and learn new skills. Volunteers are included in professional development
seminars and workshops sponsored by the agency.
The Volunteer Coordinator meets with individuals who inquire
about volunteering at Purpose Society to find out the activities they want to
participate in and assists in matching the applicant’s interests and skills with
available volunteer positions. New volunteers are asked to fill out an
application, provide three professional references and consent to a criminal
record check. Some volunteer positions may require a driving record check. All
new volunteers are asked to commit to four hours/week for a three-month period.
